Museum of Barbarism

Museum of Barbarism
Museum of Barbarism (Irhan Sk. 2, north Nicosia) – for those curious about Cyprus’ recent political history, this is a shrine dedicated to Dr. Nihat Ilhan, a major who served in the Cyprus Turkish contingent in 1963 (and who lived in the house where this is located). During the inter-communal troubles of December that year, the house was attacked by Greek-Cypriot fighters. Dr. Ilhan’s wife and three children died in that attack. The shrine (which also shows photos of other Turkish victims of the civil conflict here) is to remind visitors of the political violence that once ravaged the island back in the 1960s. Hours: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (Summer), 9:00 am – 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm – 4:45 pm (Winter).
