Venetian Walls of Nicosia — built by the Venetians in the 16th century to repel Arab attacks on the city, these walls extend 4.5kms around the city. They are impressive battlements punctuated by eleven bastions and three gates, which provide good views over parts of the city. The capital was already relocated inland to protect the country from coastal raiders. Nevertheless, in the 15th and 16th centuries, the attackers became bolder and started moving inland. –
