Kourion

Kourion
Kourion – located on the island’s west coast (90 minute drive from Nicosia), this is a “must-see” destination for those interested in the island’s ancient history. Kourion is one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in Cyprus and features a magnificent Greco – Roman theater, stately villas with exquisite mosaic floors, and an early Christian Basilica. The Roman villas include the “House of Achilles” (whose floor depicts the popular story of the revealing of Achilles’ true identity by Odysseus in the court of the king Lycomedes at Skyros); and located a few meters away is the “House of the Gladiators” (whose courtyard depicts a Gladiator combat scene – a rarity in Cyprus).
